“The Right to Write” Response #3

What I read today from Julia Cameron is her pointing out the flaws of what the idea of a ‘Writer’ is. What people think makes someone a writer, that some people think that they can’t be a a writer. “The bottom line, the fact that the act of writing makes you a writer, barely enters the equation at all. Instead, we come up with ideas like, ‘Real writers are published,’ or ‘Real writers make a loving from their writing.’ In a sense, we are saying, ‘Real writers get validation from others that they are writers.'”

People don’t get that writing can be simple, that someone, anyone, can write a novel. Yes, it will most certainly have to be edited, but nothing comes out perfect. If you just take some time out of everyday and write then you’ll improve and slowly finish whatever it is you’re writing!
